Sri Lanka is liberally endowed with beautiful views, and Ella has one of the best. The sleepy village is nestled in a valley peering straight through Ella Gap to the plain nearly 1000m below, and across to the coast where, on a clear night, you can see the Great Basses lighthouse. And as if the views weren't enough, Ella is surrounded by hills perfect for walks through tea plantations to temples and waterfalls.

The climate throughout most of the year is typical of the high Hill Country, with a hot sun by midday, but a moderate air temperature. It will often rain in the afternoon, but only for an hour or so. A sweatshirt, or light jacket is needed at night. In November and December it can rain a lot!
Being near the Equator, Sri Lanka has no distinct seasons, but the monsoons do the needful in their own way. Affecting the popular west coast, the South-western monsoon occurs from June to October and the North-eastern monsoon brings rains to the 'dry zone' from December to March. Overall however, the sun and good weather tends to conquer the clouds to bring you wonderful days of sunshine all round.
